Cardiology is the study of diseases of the heart and circulatory system. While cardiology was previously a sub-branch of internal medicine (internal medicine), today it is a separate department.

The accumulation of knowledge accumulated through research and new technologies have led to major developments and the emergence of sub-disciplines in the field of cardiology, as in other research and/or applied sciences. Cardiology has developed beyond expectations in the last 30-40 years and these developments continue to increase. With these developments, some of the sub-branches that have emerged within cardiology are as follows:

Interventional cardiology
Cardiac electrophysiology

Of course, the emergence of subspecialties and the work of doctors and researchers specializing in them also enable the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

Among the diseases that cardiology works to diagnose and treat, there are some diseases that are among the most important health problems of our time. Some of these diseases can be listed as follows:

Hypertension
Atherosclerotic heart diseases (such as coronary artery disease)
Heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias)
Congenital heart diseases

High blood pressure, which is also of interest to branches such as nephrology and endocrinology, heart failure due to various diseases, congenital or valvular heart diseases due to various diseases and many similar diseases are among the diseases that cardiology deals with for diagnosis and treatment.

Some of the diagnostic tools used by cardiology are as follows:

Echocardiography

Electrocardiography (ECG) and related diagnostic procedures:
Cardiac stress test (also known as “stress test” or “stress ECG”)
Portable ECG device (also known as a “Holter monitor”)
Levels of cardiac enzymes in the blood
